To Not Be or To Be

William Eastlake

was the self-described Poet of the Revolution

in a time of 1960s American turmoil.

Is it time

from the grave that

he passes the baton;

do we all need a revolution

that we can lean on?

What would it look like

in the twenty-first century

to be the Poet of the Revolution

in the grand land of the struggling-to-be-free?

On the other hand, surely it must be easy
to not be something;
even the poet of the revolution.

I assure you it is easy but
it is not easy at the same time.
The Time for Revolution is Now
at the veryvery least;
perhaps a few years before Now would be best.

Do those of us in the know think we know what happens next?

  Anarchy?   Government of the People?
Whosoever can govern well and equitably should throw the first
Stone of the Revolution.
Let no Unrolling Stone go unthrown.

On the other-other hand,

never let it be said
that we are thinking of Revolution;
that’s ancient if American History.
Our forefathers brought forth a new Nation
that we may never have to think
            of Revolution
ever again…or not.
