Candidate Profile: Josh Blair
Ahead of this Thursday’s (5/5) Peterborough Parley Debate and Salon and in preparation for next week’s Peterborough Town Meeting, GoMonadnock sent some basic questions to all candidates in contested races. We will be publishing candidate responses, unedited, as we receive them. —CJD
GoMo: What do you see as the proper role for a Planning Board in the State of New Hampshire?
I see the role of the planning board as a member of this (or any) community to weigh in on the inevitable growth of the town. To volunteer time, listen and make decisions with the community as a whole in mind; past, present and future citizens.
Is the planning board as it currently exists acting in what you see as the proper role or do you believe changes need to be made?
I see the planning board as part of a symbiotic system. Working within Zoning laws, state regulations and the guidance of our Master Plan, this system is crucial for the growth and development of our community. I would like to see more conversations and feedback on what the community wants and needs from these systems.
If you had to choose one new Zoning Ordinance to put before the voters of Peterborough, what would it be and why?
I would love to look further at more zoning ordinances that would help provide affordable housing incentives, whether it's adjusting ADU ordinances, workforce housing, or taking a closer look at what may be restricting people from building a tiny house or a similar option.
What are the ways in which you as a candidate are unique and distinct from your opponents in this race?
My unique position in town is that I have grown up here and have a younger perspective on the needs of the community. I am currently among the many renters in town and have certainly experienced the “housing shortage” the whole state is experiencing.
Tell us your vision for the future of Peterborough.
I would like to see Peterborough continue to grow into an eclectic town that has something to offer for people of all ages & economic status, and encourages younger individuals to stay and plant roots here. With this growth, inclusive housing more options are a necessity!
